Girl In Critical Condition After Consuming 'Ecstasy' Drug
Police Investigate Source Of Drug At Birthday Party
BOULDER, Colo., Updated 10:25 a.m. MST January 29, 2001 -- A 16-year-old girl was in a coma Sunday night at Boulder Community hospital after suffering a reaction to the drug ecstasy, authorities said.
The girl was hosting a party for her 16th birthday at her residence on Reliance Circle in Superior, and consumed the drug along with other guests, police said. She remains in critical condition. Others at the party were taken to area hospitals, where they were treated and released, police said. Ecstasy (also known as methylenedioxy-n-methylamphetamine) is a designer drug, commonly used by young adults. Common physical affects of the drug include dry mouth, increased heart rate, sweating, teeth grinding, blurred vision, rapid eye movement, muscular tension and cramping. The drug is most commonly found in pill form. The Boulder County Sheriff's Office and the Boulder County Drug Task Force are investigating the source of the ecstasy responsible for this incident.
